The shape of the new theatre building takes over Dortmund's medieval past as an imperial and Hanseatic city.
Like in a village floating over the city the artist’s loges and the management offices benefit from large terraces on the upper floor
Situated on the urban ring of Dortmund, the perforated-like brick facade envelops the new theater with minerality and color, refereeing to the surrounding buildings and integrating the building in the urban landscape The permeable clinker skin filters the sunlight for the foyer, the studio stage and the practice stage, which thus benefit from large views toward the city
The two new theater rooms are positioned next to each other and are fully designed to be connectable. In that way, they offer a huge range of play possibilities. The rooms are surrounded by the upper foyer which benefits from unique views behind the perforated clinker façad
