Die Verfasser geben dem Ort ein neues Zentrum und schlagen zur Stärkung des Schulkomplexes einen zentralen, gemeinsam genutzten, kommunikativen Aussenraum – einen Campusplatz – zwischen drei Baukörpern den Gebäuden A, B, und C vor. Aus Gründen der Wirtschaftlichkeit wird das Gebäudes B erhalten und durch einen Anbau mehr als verdoppelt. Der neue vierstöckige Baukörper schliesst den Platz gegen Süden hin ab. Die Durchgangszone, die heute nicht nur von den Lehrlingen und Studenten der Berufsschule, sondern auch rege von den Anwohnern genutzt wird, wird bewusst ‚privatisiert‘. Vom östlich gelegenen neu definierten Eingang lenkt ein Knick in der Fassade die Schüler der Berufsschule ins Herz des Campus zum zentralen Platz. Der Zugang nahe dem Stadtzentrum wird über einen klar gezeichneten Vorplatz betont. Eine turmähnliche Skulptur auf dem Campusplatz dient als Wahrzeichen der Schule und Orientierungshilfe im räumlichen Kontext.

Die in drei Etappen ausführbar geplante Erweiterung und Renovation des Gebäudes B bietet im Endausbau eine attraktive Eingangssituation und mit dem Ersatz des alten Treppenhauses auch eine grosszügige neue Haupterschliessung im neuen Turmanbau an. Die bestehende Gangzone wird geschickt ins Gesamtkonzept integriert. Die einseitig nach Süden ausgerichteten, funktional und variabel nutzbaren Schulzimmereinheiten werden über einen Laubengang, mit grosszügigen Aus- und Einblicken auf den zentralen Campusplatz, im Norden erschlossen. Die Problematik des Blend- und Überhitzungsschutzes der südgerichteten Schulzimmer wird durch ein Beschattungskonzept mit einfachen Lamellenstoren gelöst.

Le projet offre au complexe scolaire existant une nouvelle centralité, un espace extérieur générant les étudiants, un lieu de partage et de communication, un vrai coeur de campus pour les scolaires et le personnel.

Afin de rester dans le budget donné, le choix est fait de conserver l’édifice existant. Avec l’extension qui se développe dans la prolongation de la circulation existante, sa surface est plus que doublée. Elle s’élève d’un niveau de plus, permettant un accès direct aux surfaces de toiture reconverties.

La construction prolongée redéfinit la place en refermant le coté sud. L’axe d’accès extérieur Est-Ouest, aujourd’hui utilisée non seulement par les apprentis et les étudiants, mais aussi par les habitants du quartier, est de la sorte «privatisée». Depuis l’entrée Est revalorisée, un léger angle dans la nouvelle façade oriente les étudiants vers le coeur du campus.

Une excroissance en forme de tour surplombe l’extension, sert de point de repère et de centralité au campus. Positionnée dans la prolongation de l’escalier existant, elle marque en même temps la nouvelle entrée de l’édifice restructuré.

Depuis cette circulation verticale prolongée sont distribuées les nouvelles salles de classe. Celles-ci offrent fonctionnalité et flexibilité. Orientées vers le sud, leur accès nord est une large zone de circulation et d’échanges, offrant de généreuses vues sur le coeur du campus et les montagnes.

The project offers the existing school complex a new centrality, an outdoor space to generate student interest, a place for sharing and communication, a true heart of the campus for students and staff alike.

To stay within the given budget, the choice was made to preserve the existing building. The extension, which extends the existing circulation, more than doubles its surface area. It rises another level, providing direct access to the converted roof areas.

The extended construction redefines the square by closing off the south side. The east-west external access axis, today used not only by apprentices and students, but also by local residents, is thus “privatized”. From the upgraded east entrance, a slight angle in the new façade directs students towards the heart of the campus.

A tower-like protrusion overlooks the extension, serving as a landmark and central point for the campus. Positioned as an extension of the existing staircase, it also marks the new entrance to the restructured building.

The new classrooms are distributed from this extended vertical circulation. These offer functionality and flexibility. Facing south, their northern access is a wide circulation and exchange zone, offering generous views of the heart of the campus and the mountains.
